History
A hotel that started with a love affair…
It was in the twenties that Alexander Pavlovich Kliaguine, a wealthy Russian entrepreneur, met a young Parisian girl at a literary salon, and fell head over heels in love. As part of her dowry, and so that she would be able to receive the high society of the time, he bought a hotel in Paris's prestigious eighth arrondissement. And to this day, the Hotel Napoléon is still owned by the Kliaguine family.
Built in 1928, there are a great many anecdotes about the Hotel Napoléon's rich past.
The Kliaguine family's artistic tastes and professional approach led to the hotel becoming a lively centre for culture, especially Russian culture. Not only have many Russians stayed at the hotel, such as Ivan Bounine, winner of the Nobel prize for literature, and Prince Youssoupov, who liberated by Russia by killing Rasputin, but also famous film stars such as Errol Flynn, Orson Welles and Audrey Hepburn, writers such as Steinbeck and Hemingway, and artists such as Dali, among many others.
For many years, politicians, sports men and women, artists and intellectuals have appreciated the hotel's charms, and for this reason the current owner is making every effort to preserve the unique atmosphere, that was so dear to his parents.
